Brian May
Sir Brian May is a polymath best known as the lead guitarist of the legendary rock band Queen. Born in 1947, his signature sound—characterized by lush orchestration and vocal-like sustain—was largely defined by the "Red Special," a guitar he built with his father using wood from an 18th-century fireplace. Beyond the stage, May is a PhD-holding astrophysicist and a passionate animal rights advocate, blending the worlds of cosmic science and stadium rock. While the Red Special is his primary voice, May’s relationship with Ovation guitars is a pivotal part of Queen’s acoustic history. During the late 1970s and 80s, May frequently utilized Ovation Pacemaker 12-string acoustics for live performances of hits like "’39" and "Love of My Life." The Ovation’s unique synthetic "Lyrachord" round-back design and integrated electronics allowed him to achieve a clear, amplified acoustic tone that could cut through the volume of a massive stadium—something traditional wooden acoustics struggled with at the time. This partnership between his technical precision and Ovation's innovation helped define the folk-inspired side of Queen’s discography. Biography generated with the assistance of AI
