Year: 2007
The Ovation Viper EA Preamp was introduced in 1992 as a dedicated electronic system for the solid-body nylon and steel-string Viper series. Designed to bridge the gap between acoustic tone and high-volume stage performance, it features a sleek, minimalist control layout integrated directly into the guitar's top. The interface typically includes a master volume and a stacked dual-concentric pot for treble and bass equalization. It is powered by a standard 9V battery and is specifically voiced to work with Ovation’s high-output bridge piezo pickups. This preamp is highly regarded for its ability to eliminate feedback while maintaining a crisp, percussive "snap" ideal for jazz and world music. Despite its simplicity compared to later multi-band units, it remains a favorite for its low-noise floor and rugged reliability.
