Étude de la Plante – Son application aux industries d'art by M.P. Verneuil
This is a French Art Nouveau design reference book by M.P. Verneuil, published by Librairie Centrale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, focused on the study of plant forms and their application to decorative arts industries. You are likely wondering why I am showing you this book here?? This book, dating back to the very beginning of the 20th century, alludes to a secret historical relationship with the Adamas guitars. When looking at the patents filed by Charles Kaman, the one relating to the very first Adamas guitar model refers to this book and an illustration of a "Col de Liseron" (bindweed neck) on page 233. After quite a bit of research, I managed to find this page, which you will see here. It is reasonable to assume, then, that the design of our Adamas headstocks was inspired by this specific drawing. 😉
