Ovation Guitar Optima Preamp

1990s

The Ovation Optima preamp was released in 1992, representing a high-end leap for the brand by integrating an onboard digital tuner—a rarity at the time. It is easily recognized by its sleek, four-slider layout and a small LED display for tuning and battery monitoring. Designed for professional stage use, it features a 4-band graphic EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble, and Presence) for precise tonal shaping. One of its standout features is the Notch Filter, which allows players to surgically remove feedback frequencies without altering the overall sound. It also includes a "Pre-shape" circuit that instantly boosts lows and highs while cutting mids for a classic acoustic "scooped" tone. The Optima was often paired with the high-output CP-100 pickup, making it a staple on premium models like the Collectors' Series and the Adamus. Though eventually replaced by the OP series, it remains a favorite for its warm, studio-quality output.
