Ovation OP-14 Mandolin Preamp
1993
The Ovation OP-14 preamp was released in 1993, specifically designed to complement the unique frequency range of Ovation’s acoustic-electric mandolins. As a specialized, compact unit, it features a streamlined 3-band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) and a Master Volume control to shape the mandolin's bright, percussive tone. This preamp is most famously integrated into the MM68 series, known for its ability to deliver high-output signals with minimal feedback during live performances. Its circuitry was optimized to handle the sharp transients of double-stringed instruments, ensuring a crisp, natural sound through a PA system. Despite its age, it remains a favorite for its simplicity, reliability, and low battery consumption.
