Ovation K-Graphic Preamp

1986

The Ovation K-Graphic (often referred to as the Kaman Graphic) preamp was introduced in 1986. It was a groundbreaking addition to the Ovation lineup, representing one of the first high-end acoustic-electric systems to offer a built-in 6-band graphic equalizer. This allowed players to have unprecedented control over their tone directly from the guitar’s shoulder, specifically targeting frequencies that often caused feedback or muddiness. Unlike the simpler rotary-knob predecessors, the K-Graphic featured sleek vertical sliders and a dedicated volume control, becoming a staple on premium models like the Collector’s Series and the Custom Legend. It was prized for its low-noise circuitry and its ability to shape the distinct "Ovation sound" for professional stage use. Despite its age, it remains a favorite among enthusiasts for its robust build and vintage analog warmth.
