Ovation Guitar DJ-4 Celebrity Preamp

1997

The Ovation DJ-4 Celebrity Preamp was released in 1997 as a signature electronics package for the DJ-61 and DJ-64 models (the Derek James signature series). It is easily identified by its sleek, vertical black faceplate and a simplified control layout designed for live performance. The unit features a 3-band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) alongside a master volume slider and a "Pre-Shape" button to enhance acoustic clarity. Unlike the more complex OP series, the DJ-4 focuses on a "plug-and-play" philosophy with a focus on feedback rejection. It was primarily manufactured in Korea to fit the Celebrity line's mid-range price point while maintaining high-output gain. Its legacy remains tied to the late 90s era of Ovation’s distinctive "Lyrachord" bowl-back acoustic-electric innovation.
