Ovation 1996 Elite "Book" 12 String

Year: 1996

Many Thanks to Mike Ward from USA for these very nice photos Mike's Description: "This is one of the rarest Ovation guitars ever made: according to sources at the factory perhaps only 2 or three were made and certainly no more than 4. Mine originally went to the German Ovation distributor along with a 6 string but both were returned to the factory for a credit... It is possible that it was part of a complete set made for the German market like the one which was made for the US market and sat in the Company Headquarters... Getting information is difficult at best. It is a SSBC and plays and sounds fantastic..." (1996)

Ovation 1995 Collector's

Year: 1995

The Ovation 1995 Collector's Series is a standout entry in the brand's legendary annual limited-run tradition. This specific year was defined by a shift toward more traditional aesthetics blended with Ovation's signature high-tech build. Here is a detailed breakdown of its specifications and character: ## Aesthetic and Build The 1995 model is immediately recognizable by its Mid-Depth Bowl, which offers a balance between the projection of a deep bowl and the comfort of a super-shallow one. Top Material: Solid Sitka Spruce (AA Grade), known for its clarity and dynamic range. Finish: A striking Burnt Orange finish (often described as a warm, reddish-amber sunburst). The Rosette: Instead of the multi-soundhole "leaf" design, it features a traditional center soundhole adorned with a unique 1995-exclusive Oak Leaf rosette made of abalone and wood. Fingerboard: Select Ebony with a custom "1995" inlay at the 12th fret. ## Hardware and Electronics During the mid-90s, Ovation was at the forefront of acoustic-electric technology. This model was designed to perform brilliantly on stage. Preamp: Equipped with the OptiMax system. This was a sophisticated setup for the time, combining an under-saddle pickup with an internal microphone. Controls: It features a blend knob to dial in the "air" from the microphone and the "punch" from the piezo, along with a 3-band EQ. Tuners: Gold-plated die-cast tuners with pearloid buttons for a premium look. ## Sound Profile Unplugged: Thanks to the Mid-Depth body, it has a punchy, focused midrange and a surprisingly warm bottom end for a composite-back guitar. Plugged In: This is where the 1995 Collector’s truly shines. The dual-source OptiMax system minimizes the "quack" often associated with 90s piezo pickups, providing a more natural, "woody" tone. Many Thanks to Henri Milliex from France for these nice photos.
