The original description: This 1978 Ovation Adamas 1, model 1687, serial number 563 91 1687 8, was custom ordered by Glen Campbell from Ovation for legendary producer Brian Ahern, who added it to his arsenal of equipment used on the Enactron Truck on Glen Campbell, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, and Anne Murray. This very guitar was used on many Emmylou Harris, Glen Campbell, and Johnny Cash recordings, most notably for the killer "bass drum" on the Johnny Cash recording "Bull Rider," in which Brian thumped steadily on the back of the guitar.Click Hereto have a listen! The Adamas was originally designed by Ovation to represent the finest guitar that could be built at the time, using a carbon-fiber top. The original model, the 1687, appeared in reverse blue burst. At the time, the resonant frequency of the Adamas' body was specified at the time of ordering. Brian's Adamas' resonant frequency is 91 Hz. The fourth and fifth digits of an Adamas indicate its resonant frequency. Incidentally, this Adamas' inside label is signed by designer C W Kaman. The Adamas I was the first guitar built by Ovation with the carbon top, as well as the first with the elaborate carved/inlaid soundholes. The Adamas I also included Ovation's top of the line FET preamp. According to Brian, this Adamas was frequently strung with Mapes strings to get a bold, strident tone. This Adamas plays and sounds as good as it looks- detailed, distinctive, and responsive.
