Merci beaucoup à Patrick des USA pour ces très magnifiques photos. ------------------------- Many Thanks to Patrick from USA for these very nice pictures. Description and Specs: Ovation Custom/Converted Mandocello (Originally an Elite 1868 guitar) Originally an Elite 1868, this instrument was sent to the factory in New Hartford, CT where its neck and bridge were replaced to convert it to a mandocello. (The pictures below include “before” and “after” photos.) It has a standard mandocello neck and ebony fretboard as well as an ebonized walnut bridge. Mandocellos are not available in a burst finish, so this one is unique for that reason alone. However, the ivoroid binding and the maple/padauk purfling is no longer used in factory spec Ovations of any kind. (Or so the owner believes.) The greatest difference between this instrument and the other “cellos” however comes from its original construction as an Elite guitar. The bracing for this one is quintad whereas spec mandocellos are built with modified-A bracing. The scale of 25 ¼” is identical to its guitar cousins. Whatever the case regarding its unique features, it is a surprisingly loud instrument with considerable bottom end to the tone thanks to its CGDA tuning. It serves as yet another fine example of the quality that routinely comes from the Ovation factory. |
